Leading Philippine telco and digital services provider PLDT has unveiled the Roku Powered™ PLDT TVolution box to enable Filipino families to enjoy the world’s best video entertainment through an easy-to-use platform.
Developed in partnership with American video streaming pioneer Roku Inc., PLDT Home’s new TVolution box is an all-in-one, plug-and-play entertainment solution loaded not only with video on demand titles from iflix and Netflix, but also pay-TV channels from Cignal, free content from YouTube, and over 100 other streaming channels.
"For our subscribers, this means easy access to all their favorite entertainment content, without having to switch between multiple devices," PLDT FVP and Home Business Head Oscar A. Reyes, Jr. said.
Reyes added that “We’re very excited to launch this Roku Powered TVolution box to our valued subscribers. The box offers an easier and faster way to watch your favorite movies and TV shows and explore exciting content from top global streaming services. The new TVolution box will help consumers create meaningful bonding moments around the TV.”
The TVolution box and service are available to all PLDT Home Fibr customers starting this month for an additional monthly service fee of only P199. Subscribers can choose from millions of hours of free or paid for content from different streaming services with minimal additional charges and without a contract.
The partnership with Roku is the latest addition to PLDT Home’s roster of global entertainment partners like Cignal TV, iflix, Netflix, Fox+, and iWant TV, among others. The TVolution streaming experience is delivered over PLDT Home Fibr, which delivers world-class broadband with speeds up to 1 Gbps and enables equal upload and download speeds.
This means high-speed browsing, seamless entertainment access and top-of-the-line home security services for as low as Php 1,899 per month, now available through PLDT’s fast-growing fiber to the home (FTTH) service in many parts of the country.
PLDT’s aggressive nationwide fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) expansion program has transformed entire cities into a Fibr-powered PLDT Smart City, starting with Toledo City in Cebu, followed by General Santos in Mindanao, Naga City in the Bicol region, and Metro Manila’s southern communities.
Expecting to expand its FTTH coverage to 4.4 million homes passed by end of 2017, PLDT’s fiber homes passed stood at 3 million at the end of March. It is also deploying hybrid fiber technologies, such as Huawei’s G.fast, which can boost data speeds up to 600-700 Mbps over copper lines.
PLDT has invested P300 billion or $6 billion over the last 10 years to roll out the country’s most extensive fixed and wireless network that includes a transmission and distribution network infrastructure which now has 150,000 kilometers of fiber optic cables, transporting the growing data traffic of its fixed line and mobile networks.
