Advisory 13: PLDT, Smart sustain relief aid distribution to #PaengPH hit communities

PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), together with PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF), continue to distribute relief aid to more communities hit by severe tropical storm #PaengPH.

“We are working hard to reach all communities so that no one is left behind in our relief efforts, as families recover from the impacts of ‘Paeng’. The PLDT group will continue to do our best to serve our kababayans in need, before, during, and after disasters,” said Cathy Yang, First Vice President and Group Head of Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart.

PLDT and Smart’s sales teams turned over relief assistance to communities in Lopez, Buenavista, and Jomalig, Quezon which were received by their respective local government officials.

Food packs were also delivered to Bacoor, Cavite. Among those present during the turnover were Bacoor Mayor Strike Revilla and PLDT and Smart’s area and zone heads.

PLDT and Smart turn over food packs to Brgy. Hagonghong, Buenavista, Quezon with Mayor Reynaldo Rosilla and Captain Elma Moneno.

 

PLDT and Smart also brought food packs to help residents of General Trias, Cavite. Vice Mayor Jonas Labuguen with city hall officials and Brgy. Captain Ricky Deseo were at the turnover.

Last week, PLDT, Smart, and PSF reached some 4,500 families affected by ‘Paeng’ in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The Group remains fully committed to be of service to Filipinos by providing aid in the form of communication and relief packs to communities affected by disasters.

 


 

Advisory 12: PLDT, Smart reach more communities with relief aid post-#PaengPH

PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), with PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF), reached more communities, delivering relief aid to provinces hard hit by severe tropical storm #PaengPH.

“We are continuously ramping up our relief efforts to get the much-needed help faster to communities severely impacted by ‘Paeng’. PLDT and Smart’s commitment to reaching and assisting our kapatids in need remains steadfast before, during, and after any disaster,” said Cathy Yang, First Vice President and Group Head of Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart.

Volunteers from PLDT and Smart distributed food packs to Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Marinduque, Quezon, and Sorsogon today, which benefited around 1,900 families who experienced the onslaught of ‘Paeng’.

Just yesterday, the Group was able to turn over 2,500 food packs to several areas in Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Maguindanao del Norte, North Cotabato, and Zamboanga City.

PLDT, Smart, and PSF continue to be at the forefront of providing assistance in the form of communications as aid, relief packs, and other necessities to help communities get back on their feet after experiencing the impacts of severe tropical storm ‘Paeng’.

 


 

Advisory 11: PLDT, Smart ramp up relief assistance distribution to Paeng-hit provinces

PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) turned over relief assistance to Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna, which were affected by severe tropical storm #PaengPH. 

“PLDT and Smart first served the impacted communities with communications as aid, through our Libreng Tawag, Libreng Charging, Libreng Wi-Fi, emergency load assistance, and Ligtas Kits. With the help of PLDT-Smart Foundation and our wider Tulong Kapatid partners through the MVP Group of Companies, we're sending relief to the most affected, to help them recover,” said Cathy Yang, First Vice President and Group Head of Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart. 

PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF), assisted by PLDT and Smart’s Mindanao teams, were able to bring food packs to Maguindanao del Norte, North Cotabato, and Zamboanga City. 

Before ‘Paeng’ made its way to the Philippine islands, PLDT and Smart supported Albay’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office efforts by providing one Ligtas Kit, an all-in-one communications package that provides quick, emergency communications support to communities in times of a disaster.

PSF have likewise extended the same assistance and provided the municipality of Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao del Norte with their own Ligtas Kit to help their future disaster risk operations.

More batches of relief packs are on their way as the Group continues to work on bringing much-needed aid to other ‘Paeng’-hit localities.

The Group’s sales teams were also able to deliver relief aid to residents of Carmona, Cavite. Among those present in the turnover were Carmona Mayor Dahlia Loyola and ABC President Almario Zamora. Imus City Mayor AA Advincula also joined PLDT and Smart in the distribution of food packs to their residents. 

To date, PLDT, Smart, and PSF delivered 2,500 food packs to provinces in Luzon and Mindanao.  Volunteers from PLDT and Smart are already on their way to reach more provinces that experienced the onslaught of severe tropical storm ‘Paeng’.

PLDT and Smart underscore the value of communication aid as a lifeline during disasters and how prioritizing this can help accelerate bringing relief to those in need faster and better.

 


 

Advisory 10: PLDT, Smart deliver first batch of relief to CamSur post-Paeng 

PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) delivered their first batch of relief aid to communities in Camarines Sur following the onslaught of severe tropical storm #PaengPH.

Volunteers from PLDT and Smart's Bicol offices have helped pack and distribute the relief bags. Representatives from the local government units of Sangay and San Jose, Camarines Sur were present during the delivery and turnover of food packs to their residents who were impacted by ‘Paeng’. 

“PLDT and Smart continue to work on bringing much-needed help to more provinces in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao swept over by ‘Paeng’ in the coming days. The Group is also in close coordination with their key partners from the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices of ‘Paeng’-hit areas, the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation, and Tulong Kapatid, the consortium of MVP-led organizations and foundations,” said Cathy Yang, First Vice President and Group Head of Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart. 

PLDT and Smart employees volunteered their time to help bring assistance to those in need.

More relief assistance from PLDT, Smart, PLDT and Smart Foundation, and the rest of Tulong Kapatid are on their way to severely affected provinces in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Advisory 9: PLDT, Smart first to restore services in the Leyte, relief on their way in all #PaengPH areas 

[31 October 2022] As of 6pm, Philippine Standard Time, PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) fully restore network services in Leyte, Samar, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, and Oriental Mindoro after #PaengPH swept over several Philippine provinces.

PLDT and Smart network also stayed resilient in North Luzon amid impacts of ‘Paeng’ due to its strength. Restoration of fixed and wireless in Bulacan has been partially completed.

The Group is currently conducting simultaneous restoration efforts in Metro Manila, South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. There is also an ongoing network assessment in areas experiencing service disruptions as a result of commercial power failure because of 'Paeng'. 

“PLDT and Smart are working double time to ensure our network can continue to be of service in times of disasters, all thanks to our operations and network teams. Aside from this, we will begin distributing relief aid to severely affected areas, made possible by our volunteers. We have also opened more free calls and charging stations as part of our efforts on communication as aid,” said Cathy Yang, First Vice President and Group Head of Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart.

Affected communities in Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, Quezon, Marinduque, Capiz, Antique, Aklan, Maguindanao del Norte, and Zamboanga City will receive relief assistance in the coming days. 

Additional Libreng Tawag (free calls) and Libreng Charging (free charging) stations were opened in Aurora and Marinduque to help residents connect with their families and loved ones.

Advisory 8: PLDT, Smart ramp up nationwide rollout of free calls, charging and load assistance to Paeng-affected areas

[30 October 2022] As of 5pm, Philippine Standard Time, PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) added more Libreng Tawag (free calls) and Libreng Charging (free charging) stations to serve the communication needs of communities affected by “Paeng.”

“The Group has begun offering free calls and charging in Quezon, Sultan Kudarat, and Maguindanao del Norte to provide communication as aid to those who need it most. PLDT and Smart also provided the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Offices (PDRRMOs) of Batangas, Aklan, Capiz, Southern Leyte, and Maguindanao del Norte with emergency load to support their coordination efforts,” said Cathy Yang, First Vice President and Group Head of Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart.

PLDT-Smart Ligtas Kits are currently being utilized in the PDRRMOs of Albay, Batangas, and Bantayan Island, Cebu as they conduct their rescue and response operations.

As soon as volunteers finish preparing relief packs, PLDT and Smart will begin distribution of aid to distressed communities hit by Paeng.

 


 

Advisory 7: PLDT, Smart confirm network stayed resilient following #PaengPH

[30 October 2022] As of 8am, Philippine Standard Time, PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) network remained resilient in Northern Luzon following the onslaught of "Paeng," now a tropical storm.

“Our teams have prepositioned mission-critical equipment and manpower even before Paeng intensified into a severe tropical storm which helped our network stay resilient. We await more details on the restoration of commercial power in areas such as Batangas and Laguna, as our connectivity service is dependent on power. We are widening our relief distribution in the coming days to reach more people in need,” said Cathy Yang, First Vice President and Group Head of Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart.  

Network assessment is still ongoing in areas experiencing service disruptions in part caused by commercial power outages due to Paeng. PLDT and Smart continue to work with their partner vendors on fully restoring network services in these areas.

PLDT and Smart’s site facilities continue to stay on full alert until tropical storm Paeng leaves the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

PLDT and Smart have begun free calls, charging, load assistance since yesterday, October 29, and is due to widen the coverage of relief work in the coming days.

The Group is also in close coordination with its partners on the immediate deployment of relief assistance to severely impacted communities.

 


 

Advisory 6: PLDT, Smart activate more free charging stations following onslaught of 'Paeng'

[29 October 2022] As of 6pm, Philippine Standard Time, PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) activate more Libreng Charging (free charging) stations in Maguindanao del Norte and Sultan Kudarat, which experienced extreme flooding due to Severe Tropical Storm "Paeng."

The Group also sent emergency load to the local government of Datu Odin Sinsuat and Upi in Maguindanao del Norte as they continue their risk assessment, rescue, and response efforts post-Paeng.

More Libreng Tawag (free calls) and Libreng Charging (free charging) stations will be operational in other areas in the coming days.  

PLDT and Smart are also preparing relief assistance to be distributed to distressed communities following the onslaught of Paeng.

 


 

Advisory 5: PLDT, Smart provide free calls, charging, emergency load and hot meals to Paeng-impacted areas

[29 October 2022] As of 2pm, Philippine Standard Time, PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) begin to operate their Libreng Tawag (free calls) and Libreng Charging (free charging) stations in Camarines Sur, which is affected by Severe Tropical Storm "Paeng."

The Group also sent emergency load to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) of Batangas, Capiz, and Southern Leyte to support their coordination with local authorities in their respective communities. PLDT and Smart have also turned over Ligtas Kits to Albay and Batangas, which their own PDRRMOs are currently using in their risk assessment, rescue, and response activities.

PLDT and Smart are working on setting up more Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging stations in other areas to serve the communication needs of communities following the onslaught of STS Paeng.

Evacuees sheltered in PLDT and Smart's Daet Cable Landing Station were also provided with hot meals and water from PLDT and Smart Foundation. 

 


 

Advisory 4: PLDT, Smart to extend communication and relief aid in areas affected by #PaengPH

[29 October 2022] As of 8am, Philippine Standard Time, PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) are set to roll out their Libreng Tawag (free calls) and Libreng Charging (free charging) stations in areas affected by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Paeng.

Emergency load and generation sets are on standby for PLDT and Smart’s Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging stations, which will commence operations as soon as possible to serve the communication needs of impacted communities.

The Group is also coordinating with local government authorities of BARMM to help accelerate relief assistance to be extended to the flooded communities impacted by 'Paeng’ rainbands.  

PLDT and Smart’s sales teams are currently assessing the situation in Panay Islands and are working on setting up Libreng Tawag (free calls) and Libreng Charging (free charging) stations as soon as it is safe to do so. Relief aid will be extended to some parts of Western Visayas, which remain flooded due to ‘Paeng’. PLDT and Smart also opened their Daet Cable Landing Station to provide shelter to evacuees.  

As it continues to move west northwestward, STS ‘Paeng’ made its landfall in Virac, Catanduanes, and Caramoan, Camarines, Sur earlier this morning. Weather bureau PAGASA also reported ‘Paeng’ to affect Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao with heavy rainfall and winds in the next 24 hours.

No damage to network sites was reported by PLDT and Smart’s operations team amid STS ‘Paeng’. PLDT and Smart continue to be on full alert as STS ‘Paeng’ traverse the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Advisory 3: PLDT, Smart, ready to operate Libreng Tawag and Libreng Charging stations in 'Paeng' affected areas

[28 October 2022] As of 8am, Philippine Standard Time, PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) are already on standby with their mission-critical equipment and additional personnel ready to be deployed as Tropical Storm (TS) Paeng continues to move northwestward over the Philippine Sea.  

PAGASA has forecasted TS Paeng to intensify into a severe tropical storm by Saturday morning and may develop into a typhoon in the afternoon. Paeng is expected to make its landfall in Catanduanes on Saturday and may also impact the provinces of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur, portions of Aurora, and Polilio Islands, Quezon. 

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 has been issued over Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Eastern portion of Camarines Sur, Northern Samar, and Northern portion of Eastern Samar. 

PLDT and Smart are in close coordination with local government units of the affected provinces, with their sales teams onsite. The Group have likewise prepositioned their generator sets and emergency load for retailers. 

The Group has also set up their Libreng Tawag (free calls) and Libreng Charging (free charging) stations which are ready to commence operations anytime to serve the communication needs of impacted communities.

Advisory 2: PLDT, Smart activate quick response teams amid #PaengPH

[27 October 2022] As of 4pm, Philippine Standard Time, PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) have activated quick response teams as #PaengPH intensified further into a tropical storm.  

The Group continues to prepare their facilities, ready with sufficiently fueled generator sets, in areas that may be impacted by Paeng. The Group have likewise prepositioned mission-critical equipment and additional personnel as Paeng barrels over Philippine Sea at the eastern part of Visayas which may also affect southern Luzon. 

While there were no typhoon-related concerns reported in their satellite offices, PLDT and Smart’s network and operations teams have been on full alert since Paeng entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility.  

We urge everyone to take necessary precautions and heed the alerts and warnings of local governments and disaster response authorities.  

 


 

[27 October 2022] As of 11am, Philippine Standard Time, PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) have started preparing mission-critical manpower and equipment as Paeng traverses the eastern part of Luzon. The Group also continues to monitor the route of tropical depression #PaengPH.

Weather bureau PAGASA has forecasted Paeng to move west northwestward over the Philippine Sea which may affect Eastern Visayas and some parts of South Luzon.

PLDT and Smart are in close coordination with their response teams that have been alerted for deployment should there be any service disruption due to power outage in affected areas along Paeng's routes.
