Powering one of the most anticipated festivals in the Philippines with the country’s most powerful broadband connection, PLDT Home supported the month-long Kadayawan festivities such as the Hiyas ng Kadayawan Coronation Night, a display of talent and culture of Davaoenos, where Nurainie Ampatuan of the Maguindanaoan tribe won the crown; Dula Kadayawan, a showcase of Davao’s indigenous culture through games; Indak Indak sa Kadayawan, a theatrical street-dancing competition inspired by Mindanao’s rich cultural heritage; and Pamulak sa Kadayawan, which highlighted the Davao regions artistry through decorative floats.

Ana Wharf. The upper deck of the PLDT Home Fibr booth also featured non-stop entertainment through the Roku Powered TVolution that showcased contents from Netflix, iflix, Cignal and YouTube for the Kadayawan visitors to enjoy.

The Kadayawan festivities were also replete with star power as singer-songwriter Moira dela Torre held the first stop of her Braver concert tour in Davao City last August 16.

The popular Idol Philippines judge performed for the first time her unreleased tracks “Pahinga” and “E.D.S.A” and her popular hits "Titibo-Tibo," "Tagu-Taguan," and "Tagpuan" during the concert which was staged in partnership with PLDT Home Wifi and Wish 107.5 FM. Several artists and local performers also performed alongside dela Torre, including R&B prince Jay-R and Argee Guerrero of local folk band I Belong to the Zoo. Love was definitely in the air during dela Torre’s concert, as she called onstage a couple from General Santos City during her last song for a surprise wedding proposal.

Supporting the environment

More than just celebrating the Kadayawan festival, PLDT through ComRel Division also visited the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF)  in Davao City.

PLDT Community Relations team led by Katherine Diaz De Rivera and PLDT Consumer Experience Area-Mindanao Head Alan Abrina are joined by Davao Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte.

PLDT has been supporting the PEF and its advocacies of protecting and preserving the environment. In 2018, PLDT ComRel partnered with the PEF to provide some livelihood programs for women in far-flung communities. One of these programs was the production and selling of the Philippine Eagle plush toys and  donation of Tumanding Plushies Production and Multi-purpose Hall in Brgy. Tumanding, Arakan, North Cotabato. The new building serves as a space where the women of the community can gather to create adorable and high quality Philippine Eagle plush toys.

In partnership with the PEF, selected indigenous women from partner communities were trained to create the Philippine Eagle plush toys. The products were mainly sold at the Philippine Eagle Center. This community enterprise initiative provided alternative livelihood to Indigenous Peoples’ communities living within the forest.
