Hailing from San Pablo City, Laguna, public school teacher Ronalyn Quinio Quinio drove home last week with a brand new Foton Gratour Van, the grand raffle prize during Gabay Guro’s Grand Gathering. This was done in partnership with premier motor vehicle brand Foton.
“Gabay Guro opens opportunities for teachers nationwide to ultimately reach their full potential. Moreover, Gabay Guro, through our Grand Gathering, is a way for us to pay homage to the ones who have selflessly dedicated themselves in shaping the lives of our youth today,” said PLDT SVP and Gabay Guro Chairwoman Chaye Cabal-Revilla.
Gabay Guro is the flagship program and education arm of the PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF). In partnership with the PLDT Managers’ Club, Inc. volunteers, Gabay Guro has seven pillars including scholarships, livelihood programs, broadbanding and computerization, housing and educational facilities, trainings, innovations, and the Teacher’s Tribute.
Quinio, 31, is a kindergarten teacher from Placido Escudero Memorial School in Sta. Elena, San Pablo City in Laguna. Quinio has been teaching for 11 years. She recalled the night that she considered to be an unforgettable one, “I was with my co-teachers that time and we were all the way up to the Upper Box level. We were all about to leave after all the performances were finished. But as I turned around and saw my name on the big screen, I felt like jumping all the way down just to reach the stage. I was ecstatic,” said Quinio.
When asked what she will do with the seven-seater Gratour van, Quinio said that she plans to use it for business through a “service” system. According to her, it will become service transportation for her fellow teachers and her students who may need assistance in going to and from the school.
Changing lives
Quinio is among the 20,000 teachers who were present at last year’s Grand Gathering. Quinio, like the many teachers from all across the country, remain instrumental in changing the lives of today’s generation.
With a joyful heart, Quinio expresses her gratitude to the PLDT-Smart Foundation and Gabay Guro. “Thank you for all that you do, especially for every teacher in the Philippines. All the help that you’ve provided has encouraged us to do an even better job in transforming the lives of the youth today,” said Quinio.
“To my fellow teachers, may you never stop loving what you do. If you teach from the heart, you are inspiring hundreds of students from across the country to believe in the power of education. Education can change lives. Our profession has the power to give the youth an equal chance for a better life,” Quinio added.
