Advisory 1: PLDT, Smart prepositioned for #GoringPH, ready to deploy comms as aid

[August 26, 2023] The PLDT Group says it is ready for Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola), having prepositioned mission-critical PLDT and Smart manpower and resources in areas within the path of the coming storm.

“As part of our commitment to the safety and well-being of the communities we serve, we are all set to deploy emergency response teams and equipment, as Typhoon Goring intensifies in the coming hours. Our command centers are also prepared to work round the clock to ensure the resilience of our network services,” said Cathy Yang, First Vice President and Head of Group Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart.

At 11:00 am today, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) hoisted Signal No. 3 over three towns namely Santa Ana in Cagayan, and Divilacan, and Palanan in Isabela, which may experience heavy rainfall and winds within the next 18 hours.

Just this week, PLDT and Smart concluded the last tranche of relief for communities affected by Typhoon Egay, as part or the group-wide commitment to provide assistance in the form of communications, food, and basic needs and services, to help uplift the lives of Filipino families, especially during disasters.

This underscores the Group’s #SafeandSmart advocacy that promotes preparedness and immediate response through technology and capacity-building activities to help mitigate disaster risks. This is also aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal#11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
