Advisory 1: PLDT, Smart aid continues in Northern Luzon communities affected by Julian, Kristine, Leon
PLDT and Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) are closely monitoring the situation in Luzon areas in the path of Typhoon Leon (Kong-Rey) as it continues to intensify and move closer to the region.
"Safety first is our priority and that includes those in the communities we serve. PLDT and Smart have prepositioned personnel and equipment ahead of Typhoon Leon's approach," said Cathy Yang, FVP and Group Head for Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart.
In a 5 a.m. update on Oct. 30, 2024, state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that Leon had further intensified moving west northwestward at 15 kph with maximum sustained winds of 165 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 205 kph.
PLDT and Smart urge everyone in the affected areas to take necessary precautions and follow the advice of local authorities. The telecommunications companies have also prepositioned personnel, equipment, and resources to ensure the resilience of network services, The companies will continue to prioritize the safety of their employees and customers while working diligently with local government units (LGU) and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) offices to minimize service disruptions.
These efforts underscore the commitment of PLDT and Smart to attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly SDG #11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
