In Misamis Oriental, residents of Brgy. San Juan, Gingoog City are among the more than 324,000 new fiber customers connected by PLDT across the country in the third quarter alone.
In the busy Gomez household in Gingoog City, internet connectivity is important for all members of the family.
"With the challenges of the new normal, fiber connectivity has helped our son attend his online classes worry-free. He need not be apprehensive that he will get disconnected during an important class activity or exam," said Atty Alfredo Gomez of Brgy San Juan in Gingoog City, adding that connectivity has also enabled their family to participate in online masses at a time when churches are closed.
"Our fiber connection has also allowed me and my wife, being lawyers, to safely carry out our duties during Video Conference Hearings. Equally important, our stable PLDT internet connection also allows us to monitor our CCTVs," he added.
Prior to PLDT's fiber rollout in their area, Atty Gomez says he and his neighbors had never experienced fast connectivity. With fiber now available, their community can now access PLDT Home services for their respective school and work-from-home needs.
With their PLDT connectivity now in place, Atty Gomez, his family and his neighbors are now connected to the undisputed fastest fixed network in the Philippines, according to the latest Ookla® Speedtest Awards™ for Q1-Q2 2021. This is the fourth consecutive year since 2018 that PLDT gained the top spot awarded by Ookla®, the global leader in broadband network intelligence.
The latest Speedtest Awards™, presented by Ookla®, also shows PLDT achieving the fastest download and upload speeds in Makati, Cebu, and Davao, with an overall speed score of 46.25 for the quarter – besting all other major internet providers in the country. Ookla noted that the telco giant recorded top download and upload speeds of 113.2 Mbps and 136.61 Mbps, respectively. This was culled from data comparing millions of consumer-initiated tests taken on Speedtest® platforms. These include speed tests using computer devices connected to a fixed network, as well as over a Wi-Fi connection.
To serve more customers, PLDT continues to expand its fiber optic network across the country to include more barangays like Brgy San Juan. To date, about two-thirds of Misamis Oriental towns already have PLDT fiber presence.
PLDT Home is on track to add more than 1 million new customers by year-end as it fast-tracks fiber installations and upgrade capabilities.
PLDT’s continuous initiatives to provide connectivity for all is aligned with the group’s long-standing commitment to help the Philippines attain the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG #9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
