Serving the most number of mobile data users in the country at 40 million, PLDT's Consumer Wireless Business, which includes consumer sales of its Smart and TNT mobile brands, posted a ₱2.0-billion increase in its revenues in the first nine months.
The segment's revenues hit ₱65.1 billion as of end-September, representing an increase of 3% year-on-year, as the return of mobility as the economy reopens is expected to further stimulate data usage. Data/broadband contributed 80% of Consumer Wireless Business revenues.
Smart's fixed wireless subscribers also breached the one-million mark, increasing 24% versus end-2020.
Smart 5G, meanwhile, has grown its revenue contribution alongside Smart’s continuous nationwide expansion of its 5G network roll out to around 6,400 5G base stations.
Jane J. Basas, SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business, said the key to Smart’s sustained growth has been the GigaLife App, which now has over 10 million users in just a year since its launch.
“Key to Smart’s sustained year-on-year growth despite challenges has been the massive adoption of the Gigalife App by the Smart subscriber base. The app is a powerful engagement platform that allows the Smart subscribers to check their balances, monitor app usage and easily discover the library of services that Smart has to offer. It is envisioned and designed to be the “operating system” for Smart subscribers to manage different accounts in different devices and SIMS,” Basas said.

Another feature of the GigaLife App is its integrated rewards platform GigaPoints, where points earned can be converted into data offers, products and devices. In partnership with PayMaya, GigaPay also allows users to link their PayMaya wallet for in-app transactions such as buying load, subscribing to promos, and paying bills.
Through the GigaLife App, Smart Prepaid, Smart Postpaid, Smart Bro, Prepaid WiFi and TNT subscribers can now register to join the recently launched GigaMania promo, which runs until Feb. 6, 2022.
As Smart’s way of giving back to its subscribers, GigaMania offers millions worth of prizes, including daily freebies like data vouchers and GigaPay credits. Subscribers can start earning and accumulating GigaPoints as raffle entries for every in-app transaction.
As part of the GigaLife lifestyle, Smart also launched the GigaPlay App, enabling Smart subscribers to watch exclusive content such as the NBA, the PBA, K-Pop concerts and other international events.
