Leading telecoms and digital services provider PLDT has signed an agreement with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to establish fiber optic facilities that will link PLDT to the DOST's Philippine Open Internet Exchange (PHOpenIX).

PLDT will also provide rack space with power in its VITRO Data Center facility, where DOST can set up and operate their third PHOpenIX node.

Once activated, these facilities will allow DOST to operate PHOpenIX simultaneously from three different locations, thereby further improving the resiliency of the government internet exchange.

This will also provide PLDT subscribers better, faster  access to government  websites hosted in PHOpenIX.

Under the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on Monday by DOST and PLDT officials, PLDT will provide optical fiber connectivity to link up the PHOpenIX node in DOST ASTI headquarters to the new node that will be setup inside PLDT’s VITRO Data Center.

“The PLDT Group fully supports DOST and its landmark Philippine OPEN IX initiative, and its vision to operate an internet exchange that will interconnect local internet and data and service providers,” said PLDT Executive Vice-President  and ePLDT President and CEO Ernesto R. Alberto.

“This MoA is a testament of our commitment to work together with the DOST on its laudable undertakings,” added Alberto.
