Fifty-two-year-old Ann Maandig has worked in PLDT since 1992. As a daughter of former PLDT employees, the company has played a big part in shaping her values. Starting out as a telephone operator taking long-distance calls, the great rapport she’s built with coworkers equipped her with valuable technical skills through the years. It had also prepared her Super Typhoon Odette.
Odette disrupted most of Cebu’s basic utility facilities, including communication lines. While she lived more than 20 kilometers away from her workplace in Mactan, it did not keep Maandig from helping PLDT and Smart customers where needed. “I personally visited subscribers to check the status of restoration on ground. I needed to make sure with my own eyes that everything was handled properly,” said Maandig.
Her dedication and malasakit (compassion) to serve the subscribers did not go unnoticed. Recently, an entire subdivision sent a letter to PLDT and Smart’s President and CEO Alfredo S. Panlilio commending her hard work.
“What is worth praising here is the amount of dedication, good planning and coordination of resources, and excellent customer service of your leadership team and the contractors. They go beyond what is expected,” wrote Claire Canaugan, representative from Fleur de Ville Subdivision in Mactan.
Panlilio thanked Maandig and her team. “Thank you for the dedication and malasakit you have shown to these customers who are wanting our services. Your actions and hard work are truly appreciated. It will not go unnoticed. PLDT needs more of you.”
“Being in PLDT for 29 years is a gesture of my dedication for the company. I am only reciprocating their goodness by going the extra mile and giving our subscribers only the best,” said Maandig.
Maandig was hired as a supervisor in the Workforce Management team three years ago. Her prior experience helped her lead the dispatch of network personnel in restoration operations. Her efforts form part of the company’s #SafeandSmart advocacy, promoting preparedness and immediate response through network resilience, continuous availability of communication services, and relief assistance to help communities mitigate disaster risks.
