PLDT and its wireless arm Smart Communications, Inc. enable their sister company Metro Dumaguete Water (MDW) with connectivity solutions to help barangays report water-related issues. The solutions, which include smartphone devices and Smart SIM cards with load allocation, will aid 30 barangays in Dumaguete City to monitor water lines within the city, boosting efforts at tracking, reporting leaks, and immediately responding to inquiries and concerns.
“We at PLDT and Smart recognize the important role of communication in addressing community problems. We are glad to support this initiative of Metro Dumaguete Water which also enables local barangays to be more connected to their constituents,” said Hazel Amoyan, Business Head of PLDT Enterprise Corporate Relationship Management for Negros Oriental.
MDW, a Joint Venture company between the Dumaguete City Water District (DCWD) and Metro Pacific Water (MPW), has been partnering with barangays to help monitor the water lines within the city. By providing additional communication channels, MDW aims to boost each barangay’s efforts in tracking and reporting leaks to continue the reduction of water losses.
Present during the turnover were Dumaguete City barangay captains led by ABC President Councilor Dionie Amores, MDW Chief Operating Officer David Berba, PLDT Enterprise Relationship Manager Sarah Jane Martin-Hongayo, and Smart Customer Development Manager for Negros Oriental Vicmar Awid.
This effort supports PLDT and Smart’s #SafeandSmart advocacy, promoting preparedness and immediate response through network resilience, continuous availability of communication services, and relief assistance to help communities mitigate disaster risks. This initiative also underscores the MVP Group’s commitment to help the country attain the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities.
