LOOK: [Dipolog City] Largest integrated telco, PLDT, with its contractor Fiberhome Phils., recently started its cable-laying operations at the Dipolog Boulevard. This segment connects the company’s submarine fiber optic cable from Zamboanguita in Negros Oriental, to Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte, beefing up services for the province and the whole of Mindanao.

PLDT, through its industry-leading ICT arm ePLDT, is set to build additional 100MW of data center (DC) capacity beginning with a new hyperscale, telco-neutral, and purpose-built facility in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. This underscores the Group’s commitment to accelerating the country’s competitive standing as the ideal digital hub in Asia Pacific for global hyperscalers expanding in the region.

Going the extra mile for customers has been 50-year old Jonathan Dosdos’ long-time mantra ever since he started working in PLDT in 1995. He began as a cable splicer, which equipped him with profound knowledge of PLDT’s technology and equipment.

They toiled long hours, climbing poles, splicing the tiny, hair-thin cables, inching their way under a bridge to repair the destruction brought on by Super Typhoon Odette.  For 27-year-old PLDT engineer Brian Reodique, who came face to face with the realities in Palawan, it was an experience one can only learn from the school of life.

Super Typhoon Odette may have posed tough challenges to heavily impacted communities, but they’ve only strengthened the resolve of PLDT’s frontliners to reconnect people with their loved ones.

He could have waited for the floodwaters to subside. But malasakit (compassion) for his fellow Palaweños and the immediate need to restore the Palawan network propelled 58-year-old Modesto “Dong” Q. Perez and his team to walk on the flooded road, strewn with enormous trunks of uprooted trees, a day after Super Typhoon Odette hit the province.
