The Philippines’ largest data center network, VITRO Data Center, has received another certification from International Organization for Standardization (ISO), this time for implementing an energy management system that facilitates energy efficiency.

ePLDT’s VITRO Data Centers in Clark, Makati, Pasig, and Cebu have obtained the ISO 50001:2019 Energy Management System which validates the group's compliance to the international standards of efficient energy management to reduce its energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. ePLDT is the ICT arm of the country’s largest integrated telco PLDT, Inc.

According to Victor S. Genuino II, President and CEO of ePLDT, the PLDT Group has been dedicated to its commitment to carrying out sustainable practices in its data center operations.

"The PLDT Group has always recognized its environmental responsibility to integrate sustainable initiatives as we grow our businesses. For our VITRO data centers, we have laid a sustainability roadmap to reinforce our carbon neutrality commitment, by embracing renewable energy and adopting systems that promote energy efficiency," according to Genuino.

The ISO 50001:2019 standard provides a practical way to energy efficiency, through a system that ensures the continual improvement of energy performance, including efficiency, security, and energy consumption.

Complying with this standard generates beneficial effects to the environment such as lower energy usage and a decrease in carbon footprint. Moreover, through this certification, the said facilities enhance their power usage effectiveness (PUE) which boosts the PLDT group’s much broader program to attract global hyperscalers into the country.

Additionally, the certification benefits the companies collocating in VITRO data centers as they are expected to experience improved power uptime security as well as improved carbon footprint to help them fulfill their environmental obligations.

PLDT Enterprise and ePLDT have been persistent in their drive towards enforcing sustainable initiatives in its VITRO Data Center operations. Last year, the group announced its partnership with MPower for the needed renewable energy supply in its bid to decarbonize its data center facilities.
