PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications, Inc. continue to foster inclusion and provide opportunities to persons with disabilities across the country by expanding the reach of their digital trainings, as part of their IDEATe program or Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Advocacy through Technology.

Luzille Camorro, 35, was among the participants who benefited from the Digital Business Basics Training (DBBT) in Mandaue City, Cebu, conducted by non-profit organization ATRIEV, in partnership with PLDT, Smart, Voice Philippines, and the Mandaue City Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO).

This training provided Luzille and other entrepreneurs with disabilities with the basic knowledge on various digital tools and marketing strategies, which can assist them on improving their businesses in this digital age.

Luzille is an ovarian cancer survivor. This condition took away many opportunities from her, but it also taught her to appreciate life more. “I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. I’m still thankful for the chance to continue living my life,” she said.

“I can’t go back to the life I used to have and there are dreams that I can no longer achieve. However, this will not stop me from chasing new goals and focusing on the things that I am still capable of doing,” Luzille added.

Among the things she is grateful for is being able to continue running her small business of homemade food products that has helped her meet her daily needs since the beginning of her treatment until now. As she starts to venture into online selling, Luzille is thankful for the learnings she has gained about digital business, which will help her grow the livelihood she values most.

“I appreciate that there are organizations like PLDT, Smart, and ATRIEV that are willing to extend help to us. I hope that this digital training will reach more communities and make a difference in the lives of many persons with disabilities,” Luzille said.

PLDT and Smart’s IDEATe program underscores the group’s commitment to helping the country achieve UNSDG No. 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and UNSDG No. 10: Reduced Inequalities by empowering and promoting the social, economic and political inclusion of all, including persons with disabilities.
