MANILA, Philippines, February 22, 2012 – Telecoms leader PLDT will bring Baguio City’s Panagbenga Flower Festival to the world by providing unlimited high-speed Wifi access for free to festival goers from February 24 to 26.
WiFi Zones powered by PLDT will provide Baguio City’s famous Session Road with multiple WiFi access points scattered from the PLDT Baguio Business Office to Harrison Street in front of Burnham Park for the famous floral floats parade.
“We hope to enrich the Panagbenga experience by allowing people to immediately post and share their experiences online to their loved ones here and abroad,” said PLDT Baguio Customer Service Zone Head John Marasigan. “For now, those who want to use and try out the service just need to get their access PINS from manned PLDT booths in several areas in Session Road.”
Other areas in Baguio that will become active PLDT Wifi Zones during the Panagbenga Festival include the PLDT Business Office, Athletic Bowl near Burnham Park, Police Sub-station, Baguio City Tourism Office, SSS Building, Red Cross Building, Tiongson Harrison, Lopez Building, and Porta Vaga.
Tourists will also experience high speed WiFi even after the festival as famous Baguio destinations will become permanent PLDT Wifi Zones. These areas include Minesview Park, The Mansion at Wright Park, Camp John Hay Grounds’ the Comissary and Filling Station, Lourdes Grotto, and Baguio Municipal Hall. These WiFi Zones will continue to be in service all year-round throughout the city of Baguio for PLDT myDSL subscribers at a low monthly rate of P150 and P300 for PLDT landline subscribers.
WiFi Zones are powered through a dedicated high-speed DSL connection covering a wide area, where each user can have access to fast and reliable WiFi service within range of the WiFi Zones strategically scattered in the course of the parade.
“PLDT subscribers can experience the strong connection they get at home and they never have to miss out on their broadband experience,” said PLDT Home Marketing Head Dan C. Ibarra. “PLDT WiFi Zone is the same unlimited myDSL connection subscribers can experience outside the home which is made even more convenient by utilizing just one username and password in accessing.”
“We are delighted to partner with the local communities in making their festivals even more festive as they are able to share their unique experiences to their friends and families via the social media,” Ibarra added.
This add-on service is also available to PLDT myDSL and landline subscribers which allow unlimited WiFi access for registered users to more than the 3,000 establishments nationwide which have already become WiFi Zones powered by PLDT.
PLDT Head for Wired Data, Gary Dujali, says that bringing the service to Baguio has always been in the works “as PLDT has a commitment to continuously expand and make its services more accessible to more Filipinos, having WiFi Zones all over Baguio City was just a matter of time.”
