PLDT Enterprise has enabled the Local Government of Cebu City to roll out free public Wi-Fi services in 50 barangays, boosting the city's initiatives to enhance their citizens' access to information and other government services.
Free Wifi connection has been installed in strategic, high foot traffic locations around the city such as barangay halls, barangay gyms, and other key areas. Apart from fiber broadband internet, PLDT Enterprise is also powering Cebu City with a cloud-managed access point that enables the monitoring of real-time alerts in case of connectivity issues.
“We are fully supportive of the local government of Cebu City’s digital aspirations, and we are happy to be their trusted partner in helping improve the experience of their constituents, especially in maximizing the city’s digitally enabled services. With their barangay Wifi project, no constituent in Cebu City will be left behind,” said Kent De La Calzada, Assistant Vice President & Head of Customer Relationship Management in Visayas and Mindanao.
The long-standing partnership of PLDT Enterprise and the LGU of Cebu City has long enabled the City's digital transformation, benefiting city residents by helping them embrace their digital lifestyles, while also revolutionizing other sectors such as business, education, banking, and agriculture, among others.
This support exemplifies PLDT and Smart’s continued efforts to power more cities and help them achieve digital transformation through PLDT and Smart's integrated fixed and wireless networks. These initiatives are also aligned with the focus areas of the government-mandated Private Sector Advisory Council’s (PSAC) Digital Infrastructure pillar, particularly on the accelerated rollout of internet infrastructure. These also support Go Digital Pilipinas, a PSAC-backed movement that heeds the call of the government to address the risk of a digital divide by promoting digital literacy and building a sustainable digital ecosystem.
These also contribute to the PLDT Group’s endeavors to provide connectivity to all, and to anchor initiatives on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), particularly on SDG No. 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and reinforce PLDT’s commitment to its aspirational multi-year transformation, with elevating customer experience as one of the key priorities.
