MANILA, Philippines, March 16, 2012 - PLDT is bringing Araw ng Dabaw to the world by providing free wifi to festival goers as Davao City celebrates its diamond anniversary this year. WiFi Zones, powered by PLDT, will fire up the entire city at the height of the Araw ng Dabaw festivities from March 14 to 18.

“We hope to showcase the colorful Araw ng Dabaw festival to the world by providing spectators free wifi access that will enable them to share their photos or videos of the festival to their families and friends here and abroad,” said PLDT Davao Customer Service Zone Head Benjamin Gaite.

The free wifi service will enable the public to connect to the Internet as they walk along the parade route, covering the following streets: R. Magsaysay, Roxas, C.M. Recto, Bonifacio, Pelayo, and San Pedro.

Other areas in Davao that will be served by PLDT’s WiFi Zone in the near future include Torres street, Jack’s Ridge, City Triangle, Davao Municipal Hall, Sanggunian Hall, Quezon Park/Rizal Park, People’s Park, Star Club, The Auto Shop, and the Davao International Airport.
The free Internet access is a valuable tool for festival guests as they chronicle the event and post live photos and updates as they happen via twitter, Facebook, or other social networking sites.

“We are happy to be part of this celebration by providing the city with our premium wifi service. WiFi Zone complements the myDSL service at home, allowing customers to stay connected even outside their home,” said PLDT Home Wired Data Head Gary Dujali.

During the festivities, PLDT myDSL subscribers in Davao will have to register to get their username and password, or get a free trial PIN in the PLDT booths to access the WiFi Zone. Non-subscribers may use the PIN that will be provided by PLDT.

Currently, PLDT has over 3,000 WiFi Zones in the country’s major metropolitan areas, from NCR, to Cebu, to Baguio, and Davao. Service coverage will soon extend to other regions and eventually, the whole country.  To subscribe, visit www.pldtwifizone.com.

Araw ng Dabaw is an annual celebration of the city’s founding on March 16, 1936. Festivities during the occasion include a grand parade along the major thoroughfares of the city, the Mutya ng Dabaw coronation night, and various arts, cultural, and street events.
