To celebrate the Niyogyugan Festival 2020, the Quezon provincial government is going online.
Provincial officials have lined-up various online activities to enable Quezon residents and their provincemates in other parts of the country and abroad to take part in the festivities amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Powered by leading telco and digital services provider PLDT and its mobile subsidiary Smart, the online festival runs from August 17 to 21. It features an online trade fair; a discussion series on former Philippine President Manuel L. Quezon, their most distinguished resident, via Zoom and Facebook live streaming; and a business matching session via Zoom.
Also in the festival agenda is an eTagayan Usapan at Kumustahan sa Turismo, via Zoom and FB live streaming; and #Pagsibol: Exploring the Tree of Life featuring Niyogyugan Festival, FB video series, among many other activities.
“PLDT and Smart are glad to support the annual Niyogyugan festival, celebrating Quezon province’s most popular product: the coconut, conducted online this year due to the pandemic,” said PLDT Consumer Service Area-South Luzon Head Gary Festin.
"It is a privilege for us to assist in promoting the province's products and unique qualities through events like the Niyogyugan, a joyful festivity that could help raise people's spirits and hopes in these trying times," Festin added.

"PLDT is providing fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) facilities for three important festival venues: STI, as additional access point to ensure participants and audiences that there will be no buffering for Zoom and FB live activities; the Provincial Tourism Office, for their FB live events; and the Perez Park, for the Flower Offering ceremonies at the Quezon Monument, as well as the Festival Online Booth located at the center of the park," said PLDT Quezon Consumer Service Zone Head Rex G. Osio.
“A speed test at the Online Booth revealed an internet speed rating of 1080P which allows streaming HD videos and music, playing online games, and making video calls all at the same time,” Osio noted.
PLDT and Smart’s high-speed internet service is backed by tests conducted by third party analytics companies. The latest report on the Philippines by leading internet analysis firm Ookla found that Smart and PLDT maintained their position as the fastest mobile and fixed internet service providers in the country in the first half of 2020.
To facilitate a reliable network that delivers high-speed internet access, PLDT has continued its network expansion program despite pandemic conditions. The total footprint of PLDT’s fiber optic network in the first half of 2020 grew 11% to about 358,700 kilometers – the Philippines’ most extensive digital data infrastructure.
