Turnover of PLDT-Smart Ligtas Kit to Marikina City DRRMC joined by Mayor Marcy Teodoro, Congresswoman Maan Teodoro, Vice Mayor Marion Andres, PLDT Zone Head and Smart Sales Team.

PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) assist more local government units in Luzon towards resilience with the Ligtas Kit. The Group recently turned over Ligtas Kits to the Marikina City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) and the municipality of Baras, Catanduanes.

The PLDT-Smart Ligtas Kit is an all-in-one communications package that provides quick, emergency communications support to communities in times of a disaster through power, mobile technology, and connectivity equipment.

Each kit also comes with emergency communications training that aims to cultivate a culture of preparedness and to champion inclusive disaster resilience among all the members of the community, leaving no one behind. LGUs will also be given free access to online learning courses that can provide additional knowledge and skills on disaster preparedness and emergency management.

With Marikina City’s vulnerability to flooding from frequent torrential rains, the city LGU continues to address this challenge through their updated DRRMO initiatives. Present during the turnover were Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro, Congresswoman Maan Teodoro, Vice Mayor Marion Andres, joined by the PLDT Zone Head and Smart Sales Team.

Due to its geographical location and surrounding waters, Catanduanes also remains to be susceptible to typhoons. The PLDT and Smart Ligtas Kit aims to supplement Baras DRRMO’s efforts in preparing for, getting through, and recovering from disasters.

“On behalf of the municipality of Baras, Catanduanes, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to PLDT and Smart for giving us Ligtas Kit. We will keep this kit well-taken care of and ensure that we will use them to help our kababayans, especially in times of calamities,” said Baras Mayor Jose Paolo P. Teves III.

The PLDT-Smart Ligtas Kit is part of the #SafeandSmart advocacy campaign which promotes preparedness and immediate response through continuous availability of communication services, mobile solutions and activities to help communities mitigate disaster risks. The initiative also underscores the commitment of PLDT and Smart to attaining the UNSDGs, particularly SDG #11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
