Advisory 2: PLDT, Smart sustain communication aid in Uwan-hit communities

PLDT Inc. and its wireless arm Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) continue to deploy communication assistance to local government units and disaster response offices across Northern, Central, and Southern Luzon, to help ongoing rescue and relief operations in areas affected by Typhoon “Uwan.”

These communication tools are helping responders stay connected and coordinate more efficiently on the ground. Support has reached the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Cagayan Valley (Region II), Central Luzon (Region III), Ilocos Region (Region I), CALABARZON (Region IV-A), and Bicol Region (Region V), ensuring that local teams can continue serving affected residents despite challenging conditions.

To help Typhoon “Tino”- and Uwan-affected customers stay in touch during emergencies, Smart and TNT users may also avail of Loan-A-Load and Utang Na Load — emergency mobile load services that allow qualified prepaid customers to borrow load when needed. This enables users to call, text, or access mobile data even without immediate funds. Android phone users may also continue buying load or promos through Smart’s Paywall, which is accessible for free, and appears automatically once data runs out. Purchases can be made using airtime balance, credit/debit cards, or mobile wallets such as Maya.

PLDT and Smart remain in close coordination with the Office of Civil Defense, LGUs, and other response agencies to provide critical connectivity where it is needed most. These efforts are part of the Group’s #SafeandSmart advocacy, which promotes community safety, preparedness, and resilience through technology and collaboration.

Advisory 1: PLDT and Smart ready to support communities ahead of #UwanPH

PLDT Inc. and its wireless arm Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) are ready for the possible impact of Tropical Storm #UwanPH, which is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) over the weekend. According to PAGASA, the weather system may intensify as it moves closer to Luzon.

“Communication serves as a lifeline during emergencies. As #UwanPH approaches, PLDT and Smart are working to ensure that communities, including our employees and their families, can stay connected, informed, and safe. Our teams are ready to keep vital links open when they’re needed most,” said Roby A. Alampay, First Vice President and Head of Public Engagement and Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart.

As part of its regular network operations, PLDT and Smart field teams are prepared to coordinate with local government units and disaster response agencies. The group also continues to monitor and secure the resilience of network facilities in potentially affected areas.

PLDT and Smart encourage communities to take precautionary measures — such as charging devices, securing backup power, staying updated through official advisories, and following the guidance of local authorities — to stay safe and connected during the storm.
