Fighting Poverty through Micro-Financing

As part of its flagship program to help end the cycle of poverty in the country, the PLDT-Smart Foundation partnered with ASA Philippines Foundation recently to help contractual employees of PLDT and Smart gain access to micro-financing.

With the launching of this PSF-ASA micro-finance project, recipients can now start borrowing capital at a very small interest to start their business and thus help them augment their income and take home pay, PLDT and Smart Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said.

PLDT Smart Foundation gives P10 Million to fund new juvenile rehabilitation center at DLSU Dasmariñas

MANILA, Philippines, June 6, 2008 – The PLDT Smart Foundation, the philanthropic arm of PLDT and Smart, the country’s leading telecoms group, today announced a gift of P10 million to help fund a juvenile rehabilitation center on the campus of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas. The official groundbreaking of the center, to be called PLDT Smart Bahay Pagasa, was held last week.

The center will be the first of its kind in Luzon. La Salle has a similar juvenile rehabilitation center at its campus in Bacolod.

MANILA, Philippines, December 18, 2007 – Fourteen (14) members of the Pacific Partners, an alliance of major carriers in the Asia-Pacific region, have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOU) to ensure quick restoration of services in their networks during major cable system failures.
