The Philippines' leading integrated telco network PLDT Inc. (PLDT) and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) are betting on the revolutionary potential of 5G-powered Fixed Wireless Access in delivering high-speed internet to underserved regions in the Philippines.
This was among the many insights unearthed at the recent Ericsson ‘Imagine Live’ event, which featured a session on "Delivering Enhanced Connectivity with 5G and Unlocking Next Generation Use Cases".
"We are excited for PLDT to lead the understanding and application of global trends on deploying 5G, participating in our deep dive on the proper roadmap to migrate to 5G SA, and ultimately help us determine the path to take to be able to realistically monetize 5G and enable us to achieve escape velocity," said Roderick S. Santiago, FVP and Deputy Network Head for PLDT.
Moderated by Santiago, the session also featured Raymond Soh, Head of Network Solutions for Ericsson Singapore, Brunei, and the Philippines, and Dr. Ng Thiaw Seng, Head of Network Evolution for Ericsson SEA, Oceania, and India, who shared their insights on the increasing adoption of Standalone (SA) 5G networks and the acceleration of 5G expansion in industrial applications, Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), and private networks.
The PLDT Group's support for these learning sessions underscores the Group's commitment to staying at the forefront of 5G technology and exploring its potential to drive innovation and level-up connectivity and customer experience across the Philippines. As the country continues to embrace digital transformation, PLDT remains dedicated to delivering reliable and cutting-edge network solutions that meet the evolving needs of its customers.
PLDT furthers its commitment to connecting the unconnected and promoting sustainable development through investments in digital infrastructure and inclusive connectivity. By expanding access to 5G and delivering exceptional customer experiences, the PLDT Group aims to address social inequalities and contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), particularly SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.
