Aligned with its commitment to deliver meaningful connections and experiences for Filipinos around the world, PLDT Global Corporation (PLDT Global), the international unit of PLDT Inc. (PLDT) continued in 2024 the expansion of its partnership with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to benefit overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
“Overseas Filipinos bring hope not only to their families and loved ones; they also significantly contribute to the growth of the Philippine economy as a whole. With that in mind, we have expanded and strengthened our partnership with the DMW to ensure that they enjoy services that can enrich their lives as they strive for their dreams abroad,” said Albert V. Villa-Real, President and CEO of PLDT Global.
2024 marked several significant milestones, including the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement to further strengthen the partnership between DMW and PLDT Global for the rollout of reintegration programs for returning and retiring OFWs. Under its OFW Family Livelihood Program, PLDT Global and its partners have been able to provide more digital skills training, livelihood grants, and Smart Ka-Partner retailer packages to select OFWs and their beneficiaries across the country.
The expanded partnership has also supported OFWs under the government-to-government program which helped provide free local SIM cards with a one-month voice, SMS, and data plan to migrant workers, giving them access to much-needed mobile connectivity in their host country.
To help educate these modern-day heroes about cyber threats and text scams, PLDT Global also held several #BeCyberSmart talks at the DMW headquarters in Mandaluyong City. Current and former OFWs and their families had the chance to learn internet safety tips, internet hygiene to secure their data and prevent their devices from being compromised, social media etiquette, practical tips on how to spot and avoid web and mobile scams, including phishing and vishing attacks that can steal their hard-earned money, and they were also warned about the seemingly harmless viral trends that could later compromise their or their loved ones’ identity and privacy.
PLDT Global and DMW’s partnership is a solid step toward realizing a bigger vision of building a dedicated support network of government and private sector members that will advocate for the well-being and empowerment of OFWs.
