A small school situated in Bacoor City, Cavite has decided to go big in its re-implementation of the Central Visayan Institute Foundation-Dynamic Learning Program (CVIF-DLP) in its curriculum, observing the need to roll out initiatives that can help improve the focus and interest of students in schoolwork.

Dr. Maria Luz S. Villanueva, Director and Principal of Herman Harrell Horne Integrated School in Molino 5, Bacoor City, shared that CVIF-DLP had helped their students become more independent and responsible learners during the first time that they implemented the program in their school back in 2012. “We had students who were able to go to their school of choice because of the discipline and study habits that they had learned from CVIF-DLP,” she said.

The 31-year-old institution had implemented CVIF-DLP for five years before it had to shift gears due to the new curriculum and directives implemented by the education department, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.

But, earlier this year, Dr. Villanueva decided to bring back CVIF-DLP to their school. “Not only does it benefit the students by training them to become effective and independent learners with a deeper understanding of their lessons, CVIF-DLP also enables teachers to become more creative and less loaded,” she said.

The Herman Harrell Horne Integrated School community welcomed the CVIF-DLP workshop recently facilitated by PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), together with CVIF-DLP Ambassadors Prof. Amparo H. Tuazon and Prof. Jenny C. Deris from the University of the East (UE). Through this workshop, members of the faculty of Herman Harrell Horne in Bacoor City as well as from their branch in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, were able to learn more about the program and how they can apply it to their school.

“We are deeply honored that PLDT and Smart came here to train us, especially our new teachers, on CVIF-DLP, and help us embed the pedagogy in our curriculum and ensure that no learner is left behind here at Harrell Horne,” Dr. Villanueva added.

As long-time partners of the DepEd, PLDT and Smart have supported the agency’s initiatives in improving the country’s basic education system. The PLDT Group’s education programs, including its support for and promotion of the CVIF-DLP, are aligned with the DepEd’s key priorities under Secretary Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara. The agency’s five-point agenda prioritizes boosting learners’ foundational skills in reading, math and science to improve Filipino students’ performance in international large-scale assessments, professional development of teachers, employing digital innovations to augment existing teaching strategies, ensuring senior high school graduates are ready for employment, and improving educational infrastructures and resources.

The CVIF-DLP highlights the PLDT Group’s commitment to inclusive quality education through Information and Communications Technology, content, pedagogy and capacity building to ensure that there is #NoLearnerLeftBehind. The initiative is also aligned with the group’s broad program to help the country achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education.
