PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. are ramping up their sustainability initiatives. In partnership with the Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute and the Mennonite Economic Development Associates, the Group is set to equip cacao farmers with digital technology while promoting sustainable farming practices for the cacao industry in Mindanao.

PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) have ushered 14,442 farmers, fisherfolk, cooperatives, and micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) towards digitalization through their tech-enabled solutions this year, a 40% increase from 2022.

PLDT and Smart recently partnered with Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA), creating more opportunities for Filipino cacao farmers through digital solutions and capacity-strengthening initiatives for the industry.   The move expands PLDT Group’s Digital Farmers Program (DFP), helping scale up digital inclusion and mobile internet literacy.
